Chiropractic Care for Degenerative Disc Symptoms in Peachtree City

woman with glowing x-ray spine hand on backMaybe you’ve stopped running, or you think twice before a round of golf. If your imaging showed age-related changes, you may be wondering what that means for your daily life. Peachtree City Chiropractor Dr. Preston Davis looks beyond the report to understand your symptoms, how you move, and whether chiropractic care may be appropriate.

NEW PATIENTS

A Worn Disc Doesn’t Sentence You to a Life of Pain

Your spinal discs are the cushions between your vertebrae. Over time, they can lose height and water, and the nearby joints can stiffen. Here’s the thing, though: what shows up on an MRI doesn’t always match how you feel.

Our chiropractor compares staying active to keeping an old car in use. Leaving it parked doesn’t do it any favors. Your spine is more complicated, of course, but the point is to find movement that suits your condition, not push through every ache.

What Your MRI Can’t Tell You About Your Day

Age-related disc changes are only part of the picture. Your symptoms and care needs may also be influenced by:

  • Long hours at a desk and daily commutes into Atlanta
  • A previous injury or car accident
  • Your activity level and the movements that aggravate your symptoms
  • Your medical and family history

When Walking the Course or Bending to Garden Starts to Hurt

You may feel a deep ache in your low back that spikes when you walk, stand, or swing a club. In the neck, it can show up as stiffness, trouble turning your head, or pain that travels into the shoulders.

If nearby nerves get irritated, you might notice tingling or numbness in an arm or leg.

Still Hurting? It May Be Time to Review Your Options

Medication, physical therapy, injections, and surgery may each have a role, depending on what’s causing your symptoms. If you’re still hurting, Dr. Preston can assess whether chiropractic care may fit alongside your current treatment. If fusion has been recommended, discuss your questions and any second opinion with your treating clinician.

Treating You, Not Just Your X-Ray

Your first visit starts with a detailed history: what helps, what makes it worse, and what you can no longer do. Dr. Preston watches your posture, checks your range of motion, and runs specific orthopedic tests. He reviews any available imaging alongside your examination findings, including how your neck and back move.
If chiropractic care is appropriate, your plan may include adjustments aimed at improving joint movement, along with rehabilitative exercises, electrical muscle stimulation, or trigger point therapy. ‘Motion is lotion,’ as Dr. Preston, D.C. likes to say, but the approach needs to fit the person. Chiropractic care doesn’t reverse disc degeneration. If your findings suggest you need medical or surgical evaluation, he’ll refer you.

Working Toward More Comfortable Time on the Cart Path

Your response to care depends on your symptoms, overall health, and the underlying condition. Whether your goal is to walk farther, sleep more comfortably, or finish nine holes, we will set realistic expectations and review your progress along the way.
